What Endures
As I stare at the ties that ring around my wrist
I can see us both laughing
In the open air that was our childhood
As we ran and played and basked in the sun
Feeling like we’d never get older.
As I stare at the ties that ring around my wrist
I admire how you seemed to grow
In Thoughts and knowledge as well as your height
I remember wondering, will I ever grow like that?
Still feeling so young.
As I stare at the ties that ring around my wrist
I think of how you are now
Sturdy in mind and in heart
Sure of yourself regardless of who is around
Hoping someday I will grow to be that sturdy, to be that sure.
As I stare at the ties that ring around my wrist
I wonder about the future
think how we will create our own paths
and write our own stories
but always I will keep the ties that ring around my wrist.
