What Happened Today?

January 13, 2008
By Brittany Yingling, Mequon, WI

The overwhelming teacher, chalkboards
the enemies and friends in a square box

the talk of sluts and whores
the garage filling with gleaming smoke

the band playing off the walls
the kitten cries

the long lost friend
the car demolished

the drive, the drive to nowhere

the shop filled with memories
the strangers fearing what matters

the best friend
the ending like a slaughter house

the tears creeping down
and lips tatse of sweat

the family ruined by one woman
the suspicious rumored

the fan cooling and blowing, annoying
ears piercing with their own harsh rhythm

the mirror showing a person
the one you hate the most

the body fat and pale skin
the fear, the anorexia need.

the bed that calls
the lights flashing off
the fan cooling
and the tears, the tears falling again
and the girl who tries to stay, stay alive.
