A New Home
I packed up my clothes and games,
But none of the important stuff.
Headed on the highway,
To supposed safety.
I threw on my swimsuit in the hotel room,
Thinking it was a vacation.
Going to bed that night,
I heard the muffled cry’s from my mother.
I woke up to no power,
Finding out that we had to go to a safer place.
We packed up again,
And I had no clue what was really going on.
Fast forward 2 weeks later,
I’m on my way home, or what used to be of it.
I step out the truck,
With boots and clothing covering me.
I can barely recognize anything,
Since there is so much mud.
I don’t step foot inside,
Because it is too much for my young self.
All I know is,
Katrina took everything from me.
