The Web of Lies
“Why don’t you come on over here?”
Said the spider to the fly.
“Why don’t you come on and see
My wondrous web of lies?”
“I may not be too smart,” said the fly,
“But even I can see
That this is just one big trick
So you can easily catch me.”
“Nonsense!” said the spider.
“I would never do
Any such mean cruel trick
Upon a fly like you.”
Little did the fly know
What the spider had just done:
He added several silver threads
Numbering more than one.
As the fly drew near, he said
“I haven’t ever seen a web like that.”
And just like that, the web collapsed
Into nothing in nothing flat.
“It would seem that against a web of lies
That the truth is quite potent.
There was a flaw in your plan, dear spider,
And that’s that I’m the fly in the ointment.”
