Supposed to be

By
I’m sitting here staring out my window
The blue skies reminds me of your eyes.
I lost myself instantly in them
Then I was blinded by your lies.

I can’t come out and tell you exactly how I feel
Because I know now that we’re just friends.
And I don’t really want to put my heart on the line
I don’t think I can go through that again.

And it seems like it didn’t matter to you as much
But just so you know it meant everything to me.
I think what makes it even harder is
Having a perfect picture of how things are supposed to be.

You were supposed to be with me
I was supposed to be with you.
And no matter what life threw at us
We promised we’d make it through.

But that was another broken promise
Because that didn’t happen like we planned.
You said you’d always be there for me
I thought you’d always understand.

But then you decided to give up
And you changed your mind.
Now when I search for you
It’s not you I find.

You didn’t leave me with nothing
Even though that’s how it seems.
You left me with a broken heart
And a few shattered dreams.
