Sonnet #7

What has made thy heart a careless sinner?
A greedy bird of prey seeking mammon.
Gluttonous as a fat man at dinner.
Searching, tracking with fearless abandon.
Anger heats the blood in thy pumping veins,
As it stalks a fleeing dream, pleasure-less.
Pride in blindness tightens the loosened reins,
To cover daylight, dreaming in darkness.
But what a beautiful felon he is.
Envious of breath he gives a life-less form.
Unearthing lust, embrace with a deadly kiss.
Sloth comes creeping, no heart with which to mourn.
The heart is strangled, shadow covers light,
Until the day it dies and then takes flight.
