Perfect

Down the cold, stone steps
Taking in the soft, salty scent of the dark ocean
Being careful not to fall off the edge
I could almost see his crooked smile, with the gap between his two front teeth

Off to the distance, I could barely hear the laughter of my friends
At our fake Tolo dance
But all that was drowned out
By the waves running and shouting up the shore, and back

As we walked down the coast
My heart was racing like a cheetah that lost its prey in a pursuit
And as he took my hand into his
My heart popped, like baseball player chewing bubble-gum

Five little words, have changed my life
It’s almost too perfect to believe
This memory is one that will never leave
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
