Personal statement

January 24, 2008
By Rachel Cheong, San Antonio, TX

They say America is corrupt,
dirty- nothing is ever as good at it was
yesterday, the year before
When I was young the grass was greener
and the sky was blue as the eyes of true love
Now look at the world tsk tsk
They christen themselves truthsayers
(As if Aletheia were for their eyes alone)
And shove their barbs in your face
Hoping you'll swallow

I'll tell you how it is:
Sometimes life makes about as much sense
as sticking scorpions down your pants
But sitting around complaining
Ain't gonna get them out

In the meantime, look around you. see
and be still.
This is our existence.
This is our truth.
