Hamburger Queen

Have you felt the ministry
Of the fast food industry?
Burgers so sweet they melt on the tongue;
Sizzle of the right back-burner singing softly in the ear
Providing atmosphere.
Ice cream dribbles down the side of chocolate cones;
Five sticky fingers reach up to wrap around mom’s waist.
Chocolate smiles thick as paste.
Have you felt the ministry
Of the fast food industry?
Third booth back, seat in the corner
Happy couple grins at a subtly sweet whiff of fried chicken
Man whispers about how “time’s a tickin’”
By, remembering olden day picnics on a crisp, clean-cut lawn.
Teens stroll up, cool as the autumn air that sweeps them in.
Blushing, she lets him wipe mustard off her chin.
Who says there isn’t modern-day romance?
Lady cashier gives a gray, grizzled old man free pie.
He gives a quiet wink from the wheelchair, ever so shy
Oh yes, there’s hope with every bucket of fries here, folks.
Tell me; have you felt the ministry
Of the fast food industry?
