Six Months

Month one:
It's the way you smile at me from the driver's seat.
The way your hand brushes against mine when we walk side-by-side.
The way you laugh at my jokes or
How you go out of your way to
Tell me "good night."

Month Two:
It's the way you smile at me from the driver's seat.
The way you sing along to the radio.
The way you let me lay my head on your lap.
It's the way you support me in everything I do or
Admit that my lips look soft and kissable or
Go out of your way to
Tell me "good night."

Month three:
It's the way you smile at me from the driver's seat.
The way you wrap your arms around me when I'm cold.
The way you tell me all about yourself.
The way you open doors for me
and pull out chairs for me
and stand when I walk in the room.
How you broke it off with your girlfriend because you
"met someone who shakes up the way the world turns,"
And how you go out of your way to
Tell me "good night."

Month four:
It's the way you smile at me from the driver's seat.
The way you play with my hair when you press your lips to mine.
The way you close your eyes and talk with your hands when you tell a story.
The way your ego shoots up when I admit that I
"kind of like your eyebrow ring and motorcycle."
The way your arms feel around my waist when you ask me to dance or
Envelop me in a hug just because you can.
How you lay with me in the grass for
hours at a time every Friday night because
I like waiting for shooting stars.
How you go out of your way to
Tell me "good night."

Month five:
It's the way you smile at me from the driver's seat.
The way you bring me everywhere with you.
The way you take care of me through
bad decisions and
anxiety attacks and
my grandmother's funeral.
It's the way you buy me daisies.
The way you ignore the dirty looks because
you look so much older than I do.
The way you tower a foot taller and 90 pounds stronger than me.
How you ignore that, in just one month, I'm moving downstate and
You're slipping into a different time zone;
Our colleges are 1,000 miles away from one another and
I'm scared as all hell...
How you go out of your way to
Tell me "good night."

Month six:
It's the way you smiled at me from the driver's seat.
The way you choked back tears and beamed at me when I got in your car.
The way you barely took your eyes off of me the night before I left.
It's the way you slid your hands around my waist and said, "Thank you.
Thank you for every shooting star,
every laugh, every car ride,
every time you smiled back at me."
The way you brushed your hand against mine, shyly, and
Brought back every memory of every second I've spent with you.
The way you dropped me off at home the morning I had to leave-
Hopped out of the car to open my door-
And kissed me for the last time.
How you went out of your way to
Tell me "good bye."
