Why Try to Beat the Odds?

Why try in this world that constricts thee so?
Trouble and heartache and woe,
Nothing to love everything to hate,
The world closing in around your pre-destined fate.
I try to prove the world wrong,
Whether I'm writing a book or playing a song.
I never want to be anything less,
Than the thing that tries to supress.
I can do what needs to be done,
I take the impossible fight and fight till I've won.
