Sleepless nights

Days of hushed chaos,
One hundred new paces,
One thousand old enemies.
Faceless frames, no names.
Lost in the numbers
of easy people I will never know.
Eyes wide open, body alert.
Am I awake?
Finally, lay me down to rest.
Rest!
Never, those faces
they will not let me!
Slumber is lost forever.
Lost to palpitations, and visions
of woes and foes and the
burn of senselessness.
The soul cries wild and uncontrollable.
Confined by the sun, frightened of the light…
Unchained by the shadows and
let loose in sleepless nights.
