anarchy’s summer

January 20, 2008
By Natalie Villalon, Alamo, CA

anarchy’s summer
state of nature anthems pound mental backbeats
for heat stroke frenzy
and streetwise revolution, picketing, awakening:
mass transit, mass anger,
lettered haloes make pretty haloes in spring
turn pikestaff helmets in mad dog heat
because peace & love love
a good bloody brawl
fierce determination, marchers for civilization
tighten handshakes into fists
to draw blood to fertilize the new ground
on which to grow paradise
but the savage always lurks behind the floweres
behind the slogans and smiles
for the summer
to make hearts and insanity
glow with starlight or arson
