Forever for You

The streets are slick with rain and dark with dust
But I’ll stay here for you, for all the days that come undone (I’ll wait forever for you
in my heart)
The sun; it sets again
Again upon this ruthless scene of land and mass and misconception
I run back and forth and forward mumbling
your name (I’ll wait forever for you in my heart)
The lights of dawn have drifted but the memories still shine
ahead, above the coming of the morning
light (I’ll wait forever for you in my heart)
I feel the chills of sadness, the lonely hunger in his eyes
He waits to devour a sight too bleak
to see at all (I’ll wait forever for you in my heart)
The rain will fall across my cheeks like stars around the mountain tops
rushing toward the edges of this silly, dying sky
fearless of the old and weak (I’ll wait forever for you in my heart)
I watch and I see what runs
through his head, against the corners
of his eyes, in the center of his mind (I’ll wait forever for you in my heart)

One day we’ll sit below and watch
the clouds and sigh, softly
laughing, staring at the boundless wind (I’ll wait forever for you in my heart)
Still growing
The rest of the journey rarely completes; the words of our mouths may never match the words in our hearts
But to reinvent the sky and to smile at the rain

We keep us afloat through the brutality of pain (I’ll wait forever for you for you in my heart)

For once I’m relieved that I’ll never know
Exactly
