I am from the wild places

I am from the wild places.
Where highways don’t cut the landscape,
Where buildings don’t rise like deformed mountains,
Where the nights are lit by stars.

I am from the wild places
I know the moonlit lake,
The rapture of a walk at dusk,
The secrecy that dawn creates.

I am from the wild places.
I thrive in red rock canyons,
My fingers brush against the sky.
Only eagles share my sense of freedom,
Only the wind equals the rush I feel.

I am from the wild places
Thunderstorms elate my soul,
Cold fills me with a wild exhilaration,
Sunset leaves me in awe.

I am from the wild places.
My place is in the wilderness,
I will always belong there,
In breathless beauty shared by many,
But seen by few.
