Emptiness engulfs me wholly-
waiting for darker days-
telling of my only Folly-
I sit- and count- the ways.

Buried- fast- in the deepest lies-
cope with the worst Despair-
in the winter- my thoughts do fly-
to which I’m Not aware.

hurting for myself- and You all-
pensive- in the worst Pain-
all Things are bound to take a fall-
everything is in vain.

The author's comments:
Writing this was a very different experience for me. I usually am not the type to be able to write on command (I don't really know who is, for that matter), but this poem was actually an English assignment, meant to be just a fun activity for learning about Emily Dickinson. I took to the activity quite well, as you can see in my piece.
