Running the Bases

The pitch comes, you swing, full and strong,
let it fly, you can feel it's right,
you begin to run, harder, faster,
as you pump your arms, your head and heart follow,
you round the bases and head for home,
as you near you slide hard to the ground,
gravel againist your thigh, the scrape, the blood,
you wait for the call;
safe.
