Shadows cast their shimmering glow,
upon the civilization that had once been.
They dwelled beneath the rolling clouds,
leaving their culture behind in a ruin.
Abandoned by man, ages ago,
standing proud, becoming one with nature.
As mysterious as the endless sky,
where they came from, no one will know.
The civilization that once had been,
and the mystery of the stones.

The author's comments:
The watercolor painting by John Constable, "Stonehenge", inspired me to write this poem about the lost culture that created the monument.

Nice free verse.  It fits the style of Stonehenge as well as the painting.

This made me think of my favorite stories from the Outlander series.  Good interpretation of the painting!

I love this poem!  I gave it 5 STARS. I googled the painting and I thought it really put the painting into words. Great job!

Impressive commentary on the painting! I accidentally clicked one star, but meant to give it a 5!   A+
