Breaking Our Tide
Waves crash up into the air
but they don’t even wet my hair.
They are not like ones on sea,
but are between us, you and me.
It seems like mine all move your way,
though they’re not sent each every day.
You ignore them from your quiet ship,
and from my own, salt water drips.
Maybe you don’t recognize
this deep swimming in my eyes.
I stand here on this salty cliff;
you turn away and keep the drift.
