blanket of the gods
protects a city of
and appointments as it
draws near
with the rapidity of
a romantic date unwanted

to the core—
an encompassing layer
of fluff
where noise stops and thoughts
slow until
mechanics thrust
through sleepy eyes
into blue-tinted
of coffee,
interstates and time
