Momentary Euphoria
Yesterday, I snuck away
across the barren fields of restriction.
 I followed a well-trodden path,
to the glade that is my imagination.

I felt but the slightest breeze,
 pulling at my heart-
 daring me,
 tempting me,
to soar like a reckless kite
 beneath the popcorn clouds.

Oh, could I have been but that kite!
 To have tumbled through oblivion,
so high above the barber wires of society.
Paying no heed to what is “right”,
 what is acceptable and expected.
 Dismissing the man-made standards
 until, suddenly, I’m diving!
 Crash!
 Burn!

Reality has called me back by my name.
 An addict, I obey.
