"What are you going to be when you grow up" they asked
"I'm guna be a Princess" i said at the age of 4
"You're going to be a great princess!" They'd say back with a smile.
"how do you know" and They stayed silent

5 years later when They asked the same thing I'd say
"I wanna be a singer! I'm really good!"
"I know you'll make it!" They'd reply.
"How do you know?" They just sat there wonder in there eyes

6 years longer They'd ask me again
"I wanna be a doctor they always end rich!" I'd say
"Only the good ones so you better study hard, but I'm sure you can make it." They'd answer
"But how do you know?" I protested again, "How do you know?"
"I just do! Trust me."

3 years later They'd ask once more
"I wanna be an author. I'll make work. Life'll be great." I said.
"How do you know?" They asked me.
"Because you taught me to believe.
You taught me to believe in
Santa Clause and magic fairies when I was four.
You thought me to belive in
Good People and and family when I was 9.
You taught me to believe in
Music and nature when I was 15.
And You taught me to believe in
Love and hard work, Thank you Mom!"

It would be easy to say that the pants changed everything that summer. But looking back now I feel like our lives changed because they had to, and that the real magic of the pants was in bearing witness to all of this and in somehow holding us to get.
