Young Snow

Go back to bed
She says
In a half-dreary tone
Because snow is falling
Heavily, heavily
Like a white jacket of powder.

School is out
For the day
Gone, thrown away
Because snow is falling
Swiftly, swiftly
Like a rabbit bounding away.

The plows do their work
Under the
Young grey sky
Because snow is falling
Unknowing, ignorant
Like an unaware child.

Houses made
Into prisons
Of icy walls and roofs
Because snow is falling
Vastly, vastly
Like the entity of winter itself.
