The Real Masterminds

June 3, 2008
By Quincy Dare, San Francisco, CA

In this game
We are merely players
Players on a chess board
People who don’t attempt
To live
To achieve
Simply pawns
Worth little value
And simple minded
We don’t think about our actions
What we say or do
Merely pawns
In the mastermind’s game
The only one
Willing to make something
Of our useless lives
The mastermind
The genius out of us all
We rely on him
To make sense of our own life’s
We rely on the mastermind
To make a purpose
Out of the pawn’s life
Even if
We are merely used as
A sacrifice and distraction
Use pawns
We want a purpose
Yet don’t strive to seek it
