The Day My Heart Died

By
Now I know what happened the day my heart died
I can still remember the day my heart died
You left me, you didn’t even say goodbye
I thought you’d always be by my side
Then you left without telling me why
The day my heart died

The day my heart died
You left me for the ones we declared we hated most
They were in and I was out
You left me on my own
The day my heart died

The day my heart died
I thought those promises were for real
Now I see that you’ve moved on
Without a thought of those childish B.F.F. pinky swears
I wished for a time that you were still with me

The day my heart died
I thought you were cruel and uncaring
Now I realize that you grew up
I felt so small and weak watching you
I never stopped once to see that I had grown too
That what seemed perfect could never be
That there was never a you and me
The day my heart died

The day my heart died
I still think of what has past
I still allow a dream to live
Small, yes, but still there
You left me but still I wish that you were there for me
I now know that you gave me the only thing I needed
The strength to move on and a new way to see myself
The day my heart died
