My Mistake

June 3, 2008
By Josh Melter, Salem, SC

My mistakes
always remembering
never forgetting what that pain was
learning of the wooden stake
the bloody truth
of the words that I speak
the actions
my every breath
with my pain
comes my healing
my effort to survive
when she smiles so do I
when she laughs so do I
when she cries I die
for that wooden stake is in my soul
killing me
letting my life slip
so slowly
reminding me of her pain
my throbbing wrists
drugs paralyzing me
my pains
my teeth seep into my dreams like fresh blood
cut into the life of hatred
tricking the body
is my pain
my lust
my Mistake
