breathe

sometimes when people are moving through life,
time slips away and there’s no way to stop,
rushing and racing and moving too fast,
trying to stop time from slipping away

though there’s no way we can make the time slow,
we can still choose between slow-mo, fast forward

slow-mo, there’s flowers and calm little breezes,
smiles and laughter and happiness surround

going fast forward, there’s races and wind,
always confusion that’s numbing the sense

kindness and love, competition all ‘round,
given the choice between slow-mo, fast forward,

stop and remember to take a deep breath,
close your eyes, clear your head, breathe in the scent

I've felt that in the competition driven world we live in, in the competition driven school I go to, people spend too much time pushing and racing, trying to get ahead. While I understand that's just how life goes- trying to get to the top as fast as possible, I believe that it's still necessary to take some time out to appreciate the world around us and breathe.
