We Feel Like Kings
She Walks in
With her suit neatly pressed
The nuns are watching
But they're all blessed
She recognized him
From his picture on the wall
He came directly to her
When Sister Mary called
He's so young
But he's seen so much
He's sweet and kind
But afraid to be touched
When asked why he sits there
Day after day
He smiled politely
And then began to say:
"Well the children speak softly
but they dream out loud
When Mama sees them
She will be so proud
We wait all day long
While the boys' choir sings
All is well
'Cause we feel like kings"
She wants to take his hand
And bring him away
To save him from this place
Where he's been forced to stay
So she tells him her thoughts
And he smiles up at her
But no matter what she says
He still isn't sure
So after begging and pleading
She asked him why
He smiled politely
And this was his reply:
"Well the children speak softly
but they dream out loud
When Mama sees them
She will be so proud
We wait all day long
While the boys' choir sings
All is well
'Cause we feel like kings"
He's damaged and broken
Although he doesn't always show it
He skips writing class
But he's a brilliant poet
He's afraid to be good
Afraid to be praised
He doesn't want to be special
That's the way he was raised
He thinks it's his fault
What his life had become
He'd experienced so much
Doctor said his heart was numb
She wants to make it all better
To take the pain away
She want to comfort him
But this is all that she can say:
"Well the children speak softly
but they dream out loud
When Mama sees them
She will be so proud
We wait all day long
While the boys' choir sings
All is well
'Cause we feel like kings"
