A Strange Day in July

Wonder fills the air of two beautiful young minds.
The waves of the water shine like sapphires
While sunny skies heat the long summer day.

My younger brother and I were out to play that morning
Choosing the lake as our usual favorite spot
I sat on the rock carefully not to wrinkle my new sundress
Watching my mischievous brother,
Skipping stones across the silent water.

This time, something was different,
Something that we would never forget.
