butterfly catching I-V

I
oh, i'd love to catch a butterfly
i never have and i don't know why
oh, i'd love to have my very own star
but my feeble arms don't reach that far
oh, i'd love to be a different girl
in an easier, more stylistic world
but hey, if i weren't quirky little me
the world might run quite differently
oh, i'd love to catch a butterfly
but if it's not my lot i can't ask why
i must just stand silently by
while other people catch their butterflies
(maybe i'll catch a ladybug instead)
II
oh i had a butterfly once upon a time
it loved me, it told me once that it was always mine
oh i used to have a butterfly but they never linger
all too soon butterflies slip through your fingers
oh gosh do i miss that butterfly
it flew away without telling me why
it pretends it's still mine but i know that it's not
it's landed in another's hands - it has been bought
by other glamorous butterflies and things like that
it trampled all over me the skylark like a doormat
oh i had a butterfly once upon a time
but that butterfly is no longer mine
it's so far away doing other things
it's gone in a whisper like butterfly wings
III - the way i'd like to be
butterflies flutter like eyelashes
lovely things are butterfly wings
don't i wish i were a butterfly
not a care in the world
lovely fluttering flight - but wait!
does that mean i won't care about anything?
does that mean that my mind flutters
and scatters everything?
i'd rather be a bird maybe
dip and soar and rise and fly
stronger i will become
perhaps
if i do it right and care about life and take care of my wings...
butterflies float like an eyelash on the wind
a pointless wish and then it's gone again
bird wings move like a powerful something
across the
large flat wide
forever sky
butterfly catching three
this is the way i'd like to be
IV - some butterfly!
some butterfly this one is -
no wings, no feelers, no antennae
but it's just as beautiful
and i want desperately to catch it -
still those fluttering wings and nest it near my heart
that smile is like a butterfly, too,
a fleeting flash of magic that lifts your spirits like the coming of
spring
undoubtedly i am not the only one running around with a butterfly net
i am probably not even the one who wants it most,
but i do wish i could catch that butterfly
lure it in and hold it close
a marvel of beauty in my clumsy hands -
and keep it.
oh, i'll be very selfish when it comes to this wondrous butterfly
but i will try not to be... butterflies like room to breathe...
and you can't deny a butterfly what they want
not with eyes like those
V
not everyone catches their butterfly
some come so close and it flies right by
not everyone catches their ladybug
but they sweep their disappointment under the rug
not everyone catches their wild singing lark
and they just keep living but they lose their spark
not everyone gets the love they've always dreamed about
and some annoying people take it wrong and freak out.

Love the last line - "and some annoying people take it wrong and freak out." Still laughing!

And the rest of the poem was beautiful too.  *favorites* (I think I AM going to run out of room for new favorites.)
