What am I?

June 1, 2008
By Allison Knapp, Oshkosh, WI

i may be good, but i am not great.
i may be talented, but i am not gifted.
and i may be smart, but i am not brilliant.
if i am none of these thigns,
than what am i,
but merely a mediocre infant
constantly striving for perfection
yet always falling short.
time after time being shown up
by all of those around me.
so why push myself you may ask.
why do i constantly push myself beyond my breaking point?
i am only building myself up to the highest,
for the greatest let down i will ever know.

i really like your poem! it makes me want to read it over and over because it has this great meaning that i can't describe.
