Sinking

By
a feeling in the pit of my stomach
i knew it would soon happen
not able to breathe
the apprehension was nearly palpable in the air
my toes found the ends of the planks
my last breath caught in my throat before i went under
the hot summer sun beat down upon my back
the calm ripples flowing over the water
the glossy darkness beckoning from below
i wanted it, right then, immediately
i dove in, never looking back.
