My Winter Heart
As I walked calmly by,
A snowflake rested on my hand,
I watched the rest, I watched them fly,
As if from a far and distant land.
And as I strolled along the way
I saw her—standing by the pond,
A girl who stood constant among the fray
And with whom nature had made its bond.
She calmly stood there, deep in thought,
Looking across the frozen expanse,
A kind of peace to my heart she brought
As I watched the snowflakes around her dance.
I dared not ruin such a beautiful sight,
For fear that nature would grow upset,
So I stood there- thoughtfully- without fright,
It was a scene I will not soon forget.
