I Open My Eyes

I walk through the door; I open my eyes,
I step into the darkness, which I fear,
Each person I see is filled with lies.
Feelings are closed, tangled in ties,
Noting evolves or is true I hear,
I walk through the door; I open my eyes.
The need to speak, cutting like knives,
True, lasting souls; far from here,
Each person I see is filled with lies.
Last impressions and faithfulness dies,
Truth and honesty; we cannot come near,
I walk through the door; I open my eyes.
No longer touching any lives,
Everything I know disappears,
Each person I see is filled with lies.
Enter this world; hear the cries,
Must we do this; how many years?
I walk through the door; I open my eyes,
Each person I see is filled with lies.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem because I was insprired by how much people hide themselves and lie. Truth and honesty are not a staple in today's society.
