Final Sunrise
For the beauty of a cherished sunrise
in the days at last beheld by fire
if your end was near would you give it all
for to this last day admire?
The beauty of earth is unjustly lost
to the ones who belittle its gifts,
for none recall the damp of spring rain
nor the way its light uplifts
Do you remember the way the birds would sing
to the trees and blossoms as they grew?
How the rose would burst forth from its allegiant bud
and the stars in the heavens gleam anew.
The shafts of light in a ageless dawn
before the sky bursts into a brilliant blaze,
can it be consumed by the world of men?
For it shall never cease to thee amaze
The magnificence of that final sunrise
as the world is engulfed in flame
remember the glory of the last golden rays
for its beauty shall never be the same
