"The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook." William James

Close your eyes and listen, this is the only life we're given.

You'll never know where this road will take you, or maybe you do.

One thing's for sure, this road feels long and empty;

And maybe we're cut short just a little too soon.

But I'm glad that I'm on this road with you.

Thank you for loving me, and seeing all the potential that I carry.

Every memory lingers here...every laugh, every tear.

Every mistake that I made, every lie I'd ever saved.

All the years I never knew you.

What would I do without you?

They say people come and go, but I don't think I can forget you.

I don't want to.

Thank you for knowing me, and never letting me down.

I'm glad that you're around.

Thank you for loving me, and seeing all the potential I carry.

Every mistake I've ever made, all the tries and all the fights.

Every single one.

All those years I knew you...

Where would I be without you?

September 4th, 2009 Okemos High School students suffered a tragic loss. A very active senior was lost to the injuries of a car accident late the night before. His name was Adam.
Adam was in the band, which at the time consisted of 196 students. He was a goalie for the Boys Varsity Water Polo team, a part of the Boys Wrestling team and a Boy Scout. With the help of many of Adam's friends and family he has received the ranking of Eagle Scout.

It has taken a year to write to finally come up with the words for this poem. Adam has graduated high school, become an eagle scout and should now be preparing to go off to college with many of his friends. This is for Adam, and all the things he would have wanted us to do.
