Alone in the Park

May 29, 2008

I didn’t tie the string on tight enough,
My bright red balloon slipped
from my wrist off into space.
It escaped before I could even try
to jump and catch it.
The horrid wind tempted him
away from me.
And now, I’m in the park alone again.
I’m probably too old for balloons,
but that character of a vendor by
the hot dog stand always seems to crack
a smile from my face each time he hands me one.
What is it about balloons that attract
so many people’s attention?
They’re like blowing bubbles or playing around with a
microphone- everyone loves them.
They’re simple happiness.
