"Better"

By
I went to work,
and plowed the corn field.
It might have been better.
I milked the cows,
and fed the chickens.
It might have been better.
I bathed the sheep,
and exercised the horses, ran them up the hills.
It might have been better.

I ate some porridge,
soggy and gross.
It might have been better.
I went back to work,
already tired, weak
and limp.
It might have been better.
I chopped the wood,
and made our dinner,
six of us, hungry.
It might have been better.
I headed to bed, dirty and sore.
I had dreams of peace, happiness, and laughter.
I hope tomorrows is better.
