The summertime has arrived
Bold and bright
Sunlight beams from the sky
And pierces my new eyes

I want to shut them
Squeeze them
Hard and tight
For the sun sometimes burns
And I am afraid
To be so suddenly exposed
And vulnerable
To this staggering light

The winter was long
And the spring was cloudy
This brightness is not unwelcome
Just strange and unknown

I am scared
Even terrified
But I force my eyes to open
And let the sunlight burst in
I have to
For I must see
I had to
I must see
