Forget your memories, turn a blind eye
The future is fresh, the past will grow cold
It all disappears as time passes by

Staying in the past, you won’t ever die
Following time, you’ll live, however old
Forget your memories, turn a blind eye

It’s futile to hold on, don’t even try
It will slip away, no matter your hold
It all disappears as time passes by

Some say they’re stronger, and time they’ll defy
But years wait for no one, however bold
Forget your memories, turn a blind eye

Why cling so dearly to a well run dry?
To wars long ended, and treasures long sold?
It all disappears as time passes by

Seek out what’s coming, expectations high
Never mind what you did, what you were told
Forget your memories, turn a blind eye
It all disappears as time passes by

This is a villanelle I wrote about one perspective on remembrance and the past.
