Christmas Day

It’s Christmas day
And everyone came over for a warm dinner.
All the children went out to play
While me and my mom stayed to prepare.

“Set up the table and do it right.
I need to get the food out of the oven.
Where’s your father?
Is he out playing golf?
Call him.”

I picked up the phone
One ring, two rings, three rings.

“Hello? Natalia? Yes, I’m on my way
Hope moms not mad.
Tell her I was closing the house.
Give me two minutes.
Don’t worry, I’m on my way.”

Hang up the phone and go upstairs to rest,
When I hear someone knock.

“Oh good! You’re here!
Help me with the fire wood.
Your father isn’t here.
And my old back will crack.
Come, hurry!”

Rushing down the stairs,
When I hit my cousin’s back.

“Ouch! Why did you do that?
Can’t you see where you’re going?
Get me another drink and clean this up.
And fetch me a sweater.
It’ll make me feel better.”

Walking away ignoring what she said,
When I see my uncle playing bags.

“Hey! There’s my partner.
Get over here and take a break.
Looking tired like that
Please don’t say no
Or ill come over there and roar!”

It’s Christmas day
And everyone came over for a warm dinner.
Can’t wait till this day will end,
And then I’ll go up to my den.
