Loner's Lunch
She sits down,
And prepares for another lonely lunch.
She stares at her brown bagged food.
Tuna sandwhich-yuck!
An orange,
Sour cream and onion chips,
And a flat diet coke.
She opens the chips,
And pops one into her mouth.
As she munches away she pulls out her i-pod.
Right headphone first,
Then the left.
She turns on her favorite song,
And resumes eating.
She casts a glance at the other tables,
That surround her.
They are all talking and laughing,
Like they haven't a care in the world.
Like everything's just perfect.
Her heart aches.
She knows there's only one way,
To block it all out,
To temporarily erase it,
From her thoughts.
She cranks up the volume,
Until it will go no more,
And acts like nothing's wrong.
