All the sudden you weren't.
Unexpectedly.
You never faded out.
Just disappeared.
Without a warning.
You're gone.
I'm in shock.
I can't even cry.
But I know it's real.
Because everytime,
I think about you,
My heart misses a beat.
I can't take in.
The facts:
That I'll never see you again.
That everything will change.
That you were, and now you aren't.
I wonder:
Why?
How?
Did it hurt?
What's it like to die?

The author's comments:
I wrote this shortly after my grandfather's death. So this is for you.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Anyone can write a poem about death--it's the one thing we can all relate to in some way or another--but you master the subject matter with a ingenuity and craftiness.  Keeping it general and not "my granma died" or "my goldfish died" allows more people to empathise with a feeling of loss. Bravo!
