Terrorized

The perfect day mocked the pain
As smoke spread through the city
The world hurried to our aid
Bringing sorrow, bringing pity.

In that moment, for that second
We didn’t know who to blame
Just one thing we knew for sure-
Things would never be the same

We were young when it happened
We didn’t know what was wrong
The whole country was heartbroken
They just told us to be strong.

We pretend to understand
But we really don’t
How could anyone in the world
Make all those lives go up in smoke?

Scary thoughts fly through our heads
As we stare at pictures from that day
We realize that not only evil
Could make things turn out this way.

People can’t be only good
The answers aren’t what they were
What is good, what is evil
No one really can be sure.

It’s not possible for life
To go back to what it was
We’ll just have to try to fix it
We will succeed because:

As Americans we can stand
And wipe the tears from our eyes
For in our hearts, we have a goal
WE WILL NOT BE TERRORIZED.
