She Has A Hero
She has a hero.
A million miles away.
Fighting for his life, fighting for her freedom.
But it hasn’t always been that way.
She has a hero.
He’s been gone seven years now.
Fighting for the half mast flag,
Which she pledges to everyday.
Her hero is a bold one.
Alone he cradled her as a baby,
When he was still just one himself.
He wiped her tears and held her fears,
When she had no one else.
Her hero turned his life around.
He chose to walk a different path,
Defend the justice he once ran from;
To punish the men he could’ve easily become.
Her hero tells stories of blistering heat,
And the constant buildup of dangers at his feet.
His first instinct is to run,
But he cringes at the sight of an innocent child,
With a gun.
She has a hero.
Dodging bullets ducking down.
Seeing things that would cause others to weep.
Not once does he get a full nights sleep.
He talks of things she would never begin to imagine.
Yet unfortunately, he will not soon forget.
His fellow troops don’t live forever.
Their restless souls may never die,
Though her thoughts trail none of this.
All she wants to know is why.
She has a hero.
Whom she prays to god will come home to her.
Sadly this isn’t possible.
Her hero is lost,
In what seems to be an endless war.
She has a hero.
A million miles away.
Fighting for his life,
Fighting for her freedom.
But it doesn’t have to be that way…
