Sore Throat
I wake up and it’s there,
It’s annoying and not rare.
It hurts to swallow,
My tonsils are as swollen as a marshmallow.
It’s later in the day,
And it still won’t go away!
I drink water. I take medicine,
But I know I’ll never win.
It’s nighttime and I take Nyquil,
Why can’t there just be some magical pill?
I fall asleep and then wake up,
To find my sore throat still hasn’t had enough.
I don’t know how much more I can take,
I guess I won’t be able to escape,
This persistent sore throat that clings to my tonsils,
Making me feel like a fish with a hook stuck in its gills.
