Met in the first grade
Completely inseparable
Remained steadfast
Entered high school
Pick you up at seven
Hail with a ferocity
Tree limbs laying in the bed of the truck
Spun out of control
Flying toward Matt’s car
Sickening crash
Flung open Becca’s door
Large tree limb
Protruded from her chest
Covered in blood
Held on to it for dear life
Eyes shut peacefully
Grip on my hand loosened
Stay awake!
Becca, no!
Sobbed her name
Strength in me was gone
Body-racking tears
All alone
Vividly recall her smile
Empty space in my heart
Nothing could ever keep us apart
I wasn’t alone
Spirit of my best friend
Lives on in every smile I give away
