Memories

Memories from my childhood will live with me forever;
These tangled memories, in words, are hard to capture:
Bedtime stories from the voice of my mother
Hiding in the attic just to get some peace and quiet
Dancing through cold sprinklers on hot summer days
Clubhouses and waterfalls and then we went our separate ways…

Memories from my childhood will live with me forever
Walking along white beaches against the whirling wind
Seagulls squawking and soaring against a bright blue sky
The sense of freedom building up inside as I tried desperately to fly
Innocently loving this beautiful world
Learning to leap and taking a fall

Memories from my childhood will live with me forever:
Sweet watermelon dripping down my smiling face
Concealing the pain that everybody saw
Dance class, a bicycle race, and red crayon on the wall
Christmas in Oklahoma and seeing Uncle Carl
Loving my simple life and wishing to return
These memories from my childhood will live with me forever.
