In Hiding

May 20, 2008
Like a shadow, it enfolds me in its depths.
It blocks the light;
I have no hope.
One blink, two, maybe a third.
No, I fear it is still there.
I close my eyes;
Maybe that will shut out
The terrifying reality;
I don’t know who I am anymore.
My eyelids, they flutter,
Shutting out the world,
Leaving me in peace.
But it follows me.
I still see it
Imprinted inside those lids
Meant to keep out the unpleasant.
Why isn’t it working?
I know why
But I am afraid to admit it.
It haunts me.
It’s a word of the wise.
You can never hide from yourself.
