A Soldiers March

May 20, 2008
By Anonymous

In a country town
on a summers day
a sister hopes
a mother prays
a lover whispers
words to make him stay
and yet he marches on.

The drum beats fall
the rhythm holds
he's weary, starved
and shakes from cold
the dangers here
are still untold
and yet he marches on

A battle won
a battle lost
the price of failure
a troubled cost
his hope is thin
as morning frost
and yet he marches on.

But in the darkening
evening, light
he sees his family
love and right
to fight for freedom
true and bright
for us he marches on.
